Sendcat helps you shop online from the Caribbean - you tell us what you want, we search stores everywhere and help you get it home. To do that we need some information about you. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what your choices are. We've written it in plain language on purpose.
The short version
- We collect what we need to run Sendcat - your account details, your searches, and how you use the app.
- We use it to find products for you, personalize your feed, and (when you ship with us) move your packages.
- We never sell your personal information.
- You can ask us for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it - any time.
Who we are
Sendcat ("we", "us") operates the website and app at sendcat.app. For anything in this policy, you can reach us at support@sendcat.app.
What we collect
Account and profile
- Account details - your name, email address, and password, or your Google account if you sign in with Google. Optionally your phone number.
- Profile details - your date of birth, gender, and parish. These help us show you relevant products and understand who we're building for.
- Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN) - only if you add it, and only used for customs clearance when you ship packages through Sendcat. We treat it with extra care and never use it for anything else.
How you use Sendcat
- Searches and messages - what you ask Sendcat to find.
- Activity - products you view, save, share, and the store links you click.
- Packages - pre-alerts and tracking details for shipments you send through us.
Automatically
- Device and usage data - IP address, browser and device type, pages visited, and general usage patterns, collected through our analytics tools.
- Cookies and local storage - small identifiers that keep you signed in and remember your session. If you browse without an account, we use an anonymous session ID so your searches still work.
How we use your information
- To run Sendcat - search stores for you, show results, save your favorites, track your packages.
- To personalize - the more you browse, the better your feed gets. Promoted products on Sendcat may also use this, but only inside Sendcat.
- To improve the product - we study how people search and shop (in aggregate) to make Sendcat better.
- To communicate - service emails about your account or packages, and updates you opt into.
- To meet legal obligations - including customs requirements when we ship for you.
AI, honestly
When you type a request, we use third-party AI providers to translate your words into store searches - the AI reads your message so it can work out what to search for. It does not decide what you see; the results come straight from the stores. Please don't put sensitive personal information (like ID numbers or card details) in your chat messages - you never need to.
Who we share it with
- Service providers - companies that host our database, run our analytics, send our emails, and power our AI and product search (for example eBay's product API). They only get what they need to do their job for us.
- Stores you visit - when you click through to a store, that store sees the visit like any other, and our links may carry an affiliate tag so we can earn a commission. The store does not get your Sendcat profile.
- Couriers and customs - when you ship through Sendcat, we share what's required to clear and deliver your package (including your TRN, where customs requires it).
- Legal - if the law requires it, or to protect Sendcat and our users from fraud or abuse.
We never sell your personal information, and we don't share it with third parties for their own advertising.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we're required to keep records (for example, customs and shipping records).
Security
Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and access inside Sendcat is limited to people and systems that need it. No system is perfectly secure, but we take this seriously - if we ever discover a breach affecting your data, we'll tell you.
Your rights
Under the Jamaican Data Protection Act, 2020 (and similar laws elsewhere in the Caribbean), you have the right to:
- Ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Ask us to correct information that's wrong.
- Ask us to delete your information.
- Object to certain uses of your information.
Email support@sendcat.app and we'll act on it. You also have the right to complain to the Office of the Information Commissioner in Jamaica.
Children
Sendcat isn't for children. You must be 18 or older to create an account. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18 - if you think we have, tell us and we'll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top and let you know in the app or by email before the change takes effect.
